Founded: June 2005, London, Canada.
Canada Corporation Number: 640673-4
Ignalum Inc. is a federally incorporated company located at the University of Western Ontario Research and Development Park in London, Ontario, Canada. The privately held company was founded in June, 2005 with a vision of creating a cost-effective, installation-friendly, complete Linux-based operating environment offering full Windows compatibility. Dedicated to the development and promotion of Linux-based operating systems and applications, Ignalum was the first-ever to introduce Unified Authentication Management features in its flagship operating system that enable cross-platform, seamless integration of Linux and Windows user information – a major step in paving the way for true interoperability with Windows platforms. Ignalum Authentication securely enables an end-user to utilize the same login account and password for Windows, UNIX, and Linux-based systems. Ignalum’s core product lines include desktop, server, high performance computing/cluster OS, security operating system and embedded systems, as well as the provision of comprehensive IT solutions and professional technical supports.
Ignalum Linux distributions are designed from the ground-up specifically for enterprise computing. Ignalum Linux Enterprise Server and the entire line of Ignalum Linux products are in accordance with internationalization standards to help simplify development of applications that require multiple language support – a critical requirement for software distributed globally. Ignalum Linux Enterprise Server also supports the Large File Support (LFS) standard for working with applications that manage or handle up to four terabytes of data – a common requirement for infrastructures serving Fortune 500 and larger companies. By offering the cutting edge Ignalum Linux operating systems and first-class technical support services, Ignalum Software enables computers to run at its maximum performance, and provides government and corporate customers with reliable and efficient computing environment.
The Market: Since its introduction in 1991, Linux has quickly gained a reputation as a stable, secure, flexible and reliable alternative to Windows – particularly as a platform for server applications. Once considered to be in the domain of e-mail and the Internet, Linux is increasingly used for business-critical application hosting and transaction processing. For application development and deployment, Linux offers unparallel flexibility. Applications developed on Linux can run on any platform architecture that supports Linux – from wristwatches to wireless phones and Personal Digital Assistants (PDA’s) to mainframes.
More and more companies today are embracing Linux as the platform of choice for e-business and core business applications. These companies are employing Linux and custom applications as an integral part of enterprise computing in several major areas:
· Distributed e-business applications – especially those applications that need to be replicated in many different locations, often globally. Many of these applications are e-business and Web based.
· Workload and Server consolidation – many companies are achieving substantial savings in total cost of ownership by using Linux to consolidate workloads from multiple servers onto single server.
Linux is helping companies to address the twin challenges of reducing costs and expanding business in today’s ever changing marketplace; enterprises around the world are adopting Linux for what it can bring to their businesses: reliability, scalability, performance and cost savings. In fact, according to IDC, Linux today is the fastest growing server operating system and is installed on one out of every four servers worldwide.
